How do you find strength in the face of adversity?

I believe great strength only comes from great adversity or great sorrow. How can one become hardened without being put into the fire? How can someone who hasn’t been battle test in circumstances possibly give their offerings of hope, strength, and ability to overcome if they haven’t been there and done that? I believe that sorrow is also a great teacher and hardener of our minds. Failures and less than ideal circumstances teach people how to overcome in those times. Therefore being there they can give wisdom truthfully and effectively. Better than some psych doctor reading from and diagnosing from a book someone wrote sitting in a climate controlled office building.
